Cristina from Spain (master mind behind Memories of the Pacific) focuses more on quality, not quantity. Posting only once a week gives her a lot of freedom to pick the topic, prepare materials, photos without putting too much pressure on her shoulder. She also shared with us her secret which was kept for herself for a very long time. I believe many of you may find it relevant or helpful, or even alarming.
When did you start blogging and how did you come to the idea?
I started Memories of the Pacific in 2014. I created my blog as a creative outlet to share my passions: fashion, food, travel and photography.
Who is your style icon? Why?
My style icon is Julia Engel from Gal Meets Glam, her feminine and classy style will never go out of fashion. I also love Lauren Conrad and Blake Lively.
How do you describe your personal style? What are your inspirations?
My style is feminine, sweet and classy. I find my inspiration online, mainly on Pinterest and Instagram
What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?
A good pair of jeans, a tailored blazer, a white shirt and a classy dress are some of my essentials.
How often do you post? How do you come up with post ideas?
Since I have a full time job aside of blogging, I only post once a week. I choose quality over quantity. My fashion posts are about my latest finds, or outfits I'm obsessed with. My food posts are usually recipes I find online and I decide to recreate. Finally, my travel posts are about places I visit. From time to time I post flashbacks to my time living in California, hence the name: Memories of the Pacific.
What would you describe the biggest challenge in fashion blogging?
To me the biggest challenge is standing out among so much competition.
What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?
When someone tells you that you've helped them in some way, either by being their inspiration, because they feel related to you or maybe you made their day with a comment. It's the relationships you build that matter the most to me.
A fashion rule you never break?
I don't believe in fashion rules. Your style is a way to express yourself, it shouldn't have any restrictions.
What do you splurge on?
Anything that's an investment and beauty products.
From your point of view, what is the notable trend for the upcoming season?
Layers are a favorite of mine every fall, I believe they will also be trendy this year. Velvet seems to be going strong this season too, which I also like.
Do you make money from your blog? Any advice for others?
Yes, but not enough for it to become my full-time job. My advice is don't obsess about money, blog because you are passionate about it. If you are consistent and produce quality content, opportunities will come to you.
What has been your most successful blog post till now and what was it about?
My most successful blog post so far has been a review of my GHD flat iron. The runner-up is the one about meeting Kristina Bazan from Kayture.
How do you see your blog in 5 years?
I hope the blog keeps on growing and inspires more and more people.
Is there anything that you want to share with us which was not included in the list?
Something my followers don't know is that I actually started blogging back in 2010. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of closing that blog, something I still regret today. At that time it was easier to build an audience than it is today because there weren't so many fashion blogs. Starting and having a relatively successful blog these days takes more hard work than it used to. I remember that back in the day girls who are now established fashion bloggers like Annabelle Fleur from VivaLuxury, used to comment and follow my blog. I can't help but wonder where I'd be if I hadn't quit blogging for a while.
