Carly is a fashion blogger with a practical take on style. She is a mom who doesn't have a problem chasing her toddler all day long and then in the evening slip into heels. She started 'Dresses & Denim' in order to give herself complete makeover and develop her own style, and now she is inspiring other women to do the same. When did you start blogging and how did you come to this idea?
In September 2014 I decided to re-do my closet and give myself a full make-over to better fit my position in life as a young professional and mother. Blogging gave me a platform to learn about fashion and critique my own style on.
Who is your style icon? Why?
Kate Middleton. Her classy, feminine style is so beautiful.
How do you describe your personal style? What is your inspiration?
Feminine with a lot of edge.
What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?
Black skinny jeans. They are so practical, comfortable and go with everything.
How often do you post? How do you come up with post ideas?
5 days a week. My post show the outfit I wore that day and contain a bit about the outfit and a bit about my day.
What is the biggest challenge for you in fashion blogging?
Keeping organized. There is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes into fashion blogging. It’s essential to keep everything organized to create inspiring posts 5 days a week.
What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?
Having a follower tell me I helped them with their own fashion struggles.
What is the fashion rule you never break?
If the top part of an outfit shows a lot of skin then the bottom portion of the outfit needs to be modest and vice versa.
What do you splurge on?
Heels. It’s worth the money to have comfortable heels
From your point of view, what is the notable trend for the upcoming season?
Crop tops and cut-out tops will be everywhere this spring.
Do you make money from your blog? Any advice for others?
Some. Make sure the sponsored content fits the theme and style of your blog.
What has been your most successful blog post till now and what was it about?
My trip to Alaska featuring all the outfit I wore while I was there has been most successful sequence of posts.
How do you see your blog in 5 years?
5 years is a little to far in advance for me to plan. The blogging world changes lots every year, so I just stick with goals for the next 6 months.
