In fashion blogging world, a lot of people fight on their own. But there are many cases that like-minded friends team up to fight the blogging war together. Maria and Marina from M&M Fashion Bites are doing just that. These two girls have distinctive personality and fantastic sense of humor. They love fashion, but not to be ruled by it; they are on the way to create their own styles. A lot of tips being given during the interview, please read on and you will enjoy the conversation with these two upbeat and outspoken girls, as much as we do.
When did you start blogging and how did you come to the idea?
MARIA : : I started blogging in 2011, I had a blog named “miss m in the wonderland”, I posted there celebrities styles and news. In 2012 though, Marina and I created the fashion blog M&M FASHION BITES. We wanted to share our passion for fashion, so that was the great way to do it.
MARINA : Hello, Maria and I started the M&M Fashion Bites blog back in 2012, as a fashion news blog… In 2013 we transitioned into the personal style sphere and that’s what we have been up to since then!
Who is your style icon? Why?
ΜΑRIA : Actually I don't have a style icon, but I have many celebrities and bloggers that I admire their style. Names like : Jamie Chung, Olivia Palermo, Alexandra Pereira (from Lovely Pepa).
MARINA : My style icon would have to be Audrey Hepburn! The simplicity, elegance and glamour of her style is so appealing to me, combined with her amazing personality of course! I have watched all of her movies (a hundred times each) and every time I’m falling in love with her a little bit more…
How do you describe your personal style? What are your inspirations?
MARIA : I think my style in general is casual chic! But I like to try different styles, it's the most fun thing for me in blogging. The most important is to feel yourself and to be comfortable 🙂 My main inspiration are looks from street fashion and fashion weeks runways.
MARINA : I would describe my personal style as absolutely girly, chic, a bit edgy with some vintage elements and a love for pastels! My inspirations can be so many, for example a movie or even a location… One day I could be wearing a vintage, skater dress with knee-high socks, accompanied with cute pumps and the next you could see me in an edgy, bodycon one! It definitely changes with my mood!
What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?
MARIA : My top essential piece are pairs of high waisted skinny jeans, I am in love with them! Also I like to wear flats and cardigans, because I feel really comfortable and you can easily match them with everything.
MARINA : Hmm, that’s a tricky one! Most definitely high heels, in every shape or form… I also can’t live without a cute shoulder bag, crop tops and skater skirts… So there are plenty of these in my closet! My essentials though change for winter… Skinny jeans, a neutral colored turtle neck and trench coat are much needed!
How often do you post? How do you come up with post ideas?
MARIA : I post one time a week (on Wednesdays) and the next week I post two times (on Mondays and on Saturdays). I take inspiration from fashion runways, street fashion, locations, the items that I have in my closet.
MARINA : I post one or two times per week on the blog and daily on instagram! The idea for a post can come simply through of piece of clothing or a movie or a beautiful location I found or even a song, there are just so many beautiful things around us!
What would you describe the biggest challenge in fashion blogging?
MARIA : Personally, I think the biggest challenge for me was to getting better and better on the quality of my photos on my blog and on my social media.
MARINA : I would say doing and managing everything on your own… At least that is my biggest struggle. Doing the photoshoots, coming up with the looks, editing the photos, being constantly present on social media, promoting yourself and your brand. However when you love what you do, things get a bit easier!
What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?
MARIA : The greatest thing is that you communicate with many people, who are creative, follow their dreams, try to achieve their goals and maybe you have the chance to work with them and to share your passion with them.
MARINA : Personally, when I see the result of a post and It’s exactly what I had in mind, this is amazing. Especially when you start seeing the reaction from readers and supporters, it is truly heartwarming… The feeling that my vision is welcomed into the world!
A fashion rule you never break?
MARIA : Like I said I like to try different styles, so I don’t care to break rules
MARINA : I break rules all the time and I love it to be honest! I believe that’s what rules are for… If you love something, go for it no matter what people say or think! Fashion is all about trying, experimenting and having fun… Until you find what works for you and continue having fun with it… Actually I have one rule: I never wear anything that doesn’t make me feel comfortable and myself! As the great Coco Chanel said Fashion fades, only style remains the same…
What do you splurge on?
MARIA : I mainly splurge on clothes, I love to shop from kilo shops or secondhand shops and to match these clothes with nice accessories. This way the outfit looks chic and very nice.
MARINA : That’s an easy one… Shoes! All the time! I think to it’s safe to say that I’m obsessed!
From your point of view, what is the notable trend for the upcoming season?
MARIA : I like flower print trend. I think the outfit becomes more interesting with beautiful bright flowers.
MARINA : I have noticed that baby pink and nude pink are being really popular and something tells me that we’re going to see a lot more of these in the upcoming season… I am so happy about it! I love pastel colors and especially for winter, when it’s always expected to wear dark colors!
Do you make money from your blog? Any advice for others?
MARIA : I think the best advice I can give is never give up and always searching to improve different things like photos, blog’s appearance. Stay stick to your goal!
MARINA : My advice to other bloggers is: Be Social, be creative, don’t listen to anyone negative and be your wonderful selves… You can try to replicate someone else’s style or just follow the current trends, but you won’t really be happy or successful. What you need is personality… That’s what makes the difference!
What has been your most successful blog post till now and what was it about?
MARIA : I think my most successful blog post was a blog post named “HURT”. It was inspired from circus and it was so fun at the photoshooting.
MARINA : Actually I have two! The first one is called ‘’The Barbie Issue’’ and it was actually a really different post, shot in my bedroom which is really pink with me wearing two Barbie style outfits of course… The second one, where I was giving selfie tips, accompanied with my outfit which is called ‘’How To Take The Perfect Selfie’’.
How do you see your blog in 5 years?
MARIA : I hope in 5 years to achieve many of my goals in the blogging. To inspire more people and why not make blogging my full time job.
MARINA : I hope it grows even more and that it’s actually my profession! I also hope it influences people to be themselves! I want them to understand that they can be anything they want to be, anything they dream… If I can help even one person through fashion, my personal style and point of view I will be incredibly happy!
Is there anything that you want to share with us which was not included in the list?
MARINA : Yes actually there is… Another Icon in my life is the doll Barbie! People consider her an unhealthy role model but I grew up with her and her movies and I didn’t want to be skinny or even blond. On the other hand Barbie taught me that I can be anything I dream and that’s my goal too! Also her wardrobe is killer so… xo xo
