Claire from fashion's sweethart has mixed style of bohemian, hippy and urban, she calls it "city boho", which actually has been quite a trend these days. You need to really understand & cherish 'romance' in life to fully embrace and express the feeling; from Claire's interview, you can taste it from every word she said… Read the full story and feel it.
When did you start blogging and how did you come to the idea?
I actually started blogging in highschool, as a way to feed my creative energy and commence building a marketing portfolio.
Who is your style icon? Why?
I don’t necessarily have a style icon, however I do gather inspiration from some instagram influencers. At the moment I’m feeling really inspired by Bille Edwards (@billiebillie), Spell Designs (spell_byronbay) and Natalia Mohl (@wildbindi).
How do you describe your personal style?
I’m a little bohemian, a little hippy and a little urban. Probably the best way to describe it is “city boho”. As I live in Melbourne I get sucked into the urban trends like double denim, stripes and denim everything, but I also love dressing like I’m always on holiday somewhere exotic, with bright prints, flowy dresses and lace details.
What are the essential pieces you must have in your closet?
A pair of denim shorts, knee high boots, white everything from tops to skirts and dresses, and everything in between. I’m really quite obsessed with white lace and in an ideal world I wouldn’t wear anything else.
How often do you post? How do you come up with post ideas?
I probably blog about once a week to once a fortnight depending on the amount of content I have in the pipeline. I’m finding more and more that I use Instagram as a primary way of sharing, as this is such a real time environment, and you don’t need a whole story to go with a great image.
What would you describe the biggest challenge in fashion blogging?
The balance between staying relevant to your audience and true to yourself. It can be so easy to get caught up with trends that you lose sight of your own style. I’ve been guilty of this in the past, but these days I focus on remaining true to my own style and letting whatever trends there are fit into that somehow. If they can’t, I’ll leave it up to the other bloggers to make it theirs.
What is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger?
The emails and messages from followers who ask me questions, or send me photos of them wearing the same dress I did. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like I have this little community I can tap into and inspire just by doing what I do.
A fashion rule you never break?
My mum told me many things, including never to clash prints, which these days I do all the time, however something stuck with me. That was to never wear white heels with black stockings, I don’t know why, but to me it still feels very weird. As a vegetarian I’m also not a fan of leather or fur, so I will always go for the synthetic option available.
What do you splurge on?
I splurge on pretty dresses. I’ve never been one to splurge on shoes or handbags. My accessories are generally pretty low key. I love soft fabrics, fine lace details and vibrant bohemian prints. I love dresses that twirl when I dance. These are some of the things I look for in a new piece.
From your point of view, what is the notable trend for the upcoming season?
There are a few, but for me I’m really inspired by the romantic trend comeback, with soft florals and beautiful floor length white dresses. I’m a huge fan of lace, and I’m excited to see it in abundance next season.
Do you make money from your blog? Any advice for others?
I used to, and for a time my income was predominantly coming from projects tied to the blog, however now I have a full time job elsewhere and simply keep my blog as a creative outlet.
What has been your most successful blog post till now and what was it about?
It should come as no surprise that of all the fashion editorials, interviews and events I’ve covered on my blog over the years, my wedding was actually the most successful in terms of reach. So many people, from all over the world tuned in to my special day, which just made it that bit extra special. Like they were all there cheering us on. http://www.fashionsweethart.com/2015/03/teambatmanwedding-part- one.html
How do you see your blog in 5 years?
The past year my blog’s content has truly evolved to more structured projects, for each season, with a theme, a beautiful location and beautiful clothes. I see this continuing, along with more content on my adventures with my beautiful husband. We try to get out and explore as often as possible, both close to home and abroad. I want to capture more of those memories and share them on the blog.
